About Me

Hi! I'm Jeffrey Proctor

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based out of Allen and Richardson, TX. I am passionate about serving clients with various types of issues including those who have racial identity struggles, third culture kids, adult third culture kids, parents, teenagers, and those who struggle to grow in their Christian spiritual formation.

How did my passions develop?

Third Culture Kid (TCK):

I myself am a third culture kid! For those of you who don’t know, a third culture kid is someone who was raised outside of their parent’s home country. I was raised in Central America and moved to the United States when I was ten years old and the transition was HARD. I didn’t understand why I was so different than most of the other kids who just grew up in one country for their whole lives. This confusion is added on to the fact that I am biracial and I did not know if I was supposed to be one race or the other or if there was any way to embrace both.

Teenagers:

In the therapy room I have found that teenagers usually feel like they are misunderstood whether it is by their parents, teachers, friends or others. This is a time where teenagers are trying to figure themselves out but they want to find someone they can trust to help them do it.  I have found that what teenagers want is connection with someone who is trustworthy and if they can find that person, they will be able to thrive in life. As a teenager, I had a hard life, but I was blessed with many mentors that helped me to become the person that I am today. Teenagers need mentors because they are often in a place where they do not want to listen to their parents. Sometimes they just need a mentor to tell them what the parents are already trying to tell them. Not only did my mentors help me personally, but they helped me learn how to get along with my family. Not every teenager is blessed with a good mentor, so I want to be able to be that mentor for them in the same way that my mentors blessed me.

Christian spiritual formation:

As a Christian, I kept trying to figure out how to grow in Christ. Unfortunately, the answer I mostly got was to either read my bible or pray. Even though these things were good, I found no practical answers to more specific questions like how to reduce anger and lust or how to get closer to God. Eventually, I found my answers through the readings of Dallas Willard who introduced me to Christian Spiritual formation through his books. I know that many Christians still don’t know how to grow in their spiritual walk and and it brings me great joy to teach others practical steps on how to grow in their Christian spiritual formation.
